Jakarta, iNBrita.com – The football world is once again in mourning. Liverpool forward and Portugal national team player Diogo Jota tragically died in a car accident in Spain on Thursday (July 3, 2025). His younger brother, Andre, was also killed in the crash.

According to Marca, the single-vehicle accident occurred on the A-52 highway at kilometer 65, near the Zamora region in Sanabria. At the time, the Lamborghini Huracan carrying Jota and Andre was traveling from west to east during the early morning hours.

The car reportedly suffered a tire blowout, causing it to veer off the road and burst into flames. The fire not only engulfed the vehicle but also spread to nearby grassland. Sadly, rescue teams were unable to save Jota and Andre from the blaze.

Jota was in Spain enjoying the off-season break. Due to Liverpool’s light pre-season schedule, players were granted extended rest periods by the club.

Tragically, the incident occurred just two weeks after Jota married his longtime partner on June 22. The couple, who had been together since 2012, had three children.

Jota began his professional career with Paços de Ferreira before moving on to play for Porto and Wolverhampton Wanderers. In 2020, he officially joined Liverpool. On the international stage, Jota earned 49 caps and scored 14 goals for the Portugal national team.
